Over $4,000 raised for disadvantaged youth through CBRE flagship charity event
CBRE ACT staff have raised $4,200 for the Canberra Police Community Youth Club Inc. (Canberra PCYC) through the flagship charity event, Walk for A Wish. In October, staff from 22 CBRE offices across the Asia-Pacific undertook 10 kilometre walks in their respective cities.
“CBRE Canberra prides itself on being a good corporate citizen by supporting and giving back to the local community in which we work and live,” said CBRE ACT Managing Director Michael Heather. “Businesses cannot exist or thrive unless we have a strong and vibrant community which is why each year in the Asia Pacific region CBRE conducts a philanthropic event known as Walk for a Wish,” Mr Heather said.
“Walk for a Wish brings CBRE teams together from each geographic region and business line for a 10km walk that raises funds for worthy charities across the APAC region” said Mr Heather. “This year the Canberra office united to support the Canberra Police Community Youth Club as we connected with their values and history of engaging with the Canberra community since the late 1950’s.”
Canberra PCYC Executive Manager Cheryl O’Donnell said the much-needed donations will support the organisation’s outreach into the community. “This year we’ve undertaken to raise awareness of healthy relationships and relationship violence in schools, as well as hosting free family events for the community and continuing to ensure that vulnerable young people are supported to build positive futures,” said Ms O’Donnell. “The support that we receive from CBRE and the local community is crucial to our efforts to support those who are disadvantaged in the ACT.”
In 2017, Canberra PCYC hosted three ‘Healthy Relationships’ school assemblies across Canberra, in which over 1,600 students heard from celebrated anti-domestic violence campaigner Anjela Barker (Young Australian of the Year 2011 (VIC)), as well as members of the ACT Legislative Assembly and ACT Policing.
